About

Luca Girella is graduate of the University of Catania (1998) and received his PhD in Prehistoric Archaeology in 2003 from the University of Udine. Ha has also studied at the Italian Archaeological School of Athens where he completed in 2005 the specialization course on Aegean Prehistory. He has been Visiting Professor of Aegean Prehistory at the University of Sassari (2004-2006) and tenure track Research Fellowship at the University of Venice (2009-2010).
He is actually Assistant professor in Aegean Prehistory at the UniNettuno University in Rome.

He has participated in several excavations in Cyprus and Crete and since 1999 he is regularly member of the Italian Archaeological Mission under the direction of V. La Rosa following the excavation at Phaistos and Haghia Triada as well as the study campaigns.

His research interests include Minoan pottery, contacts between Minoan culture with Greek Mainland and Eastern Aegean as well as Minoan and Mycenaean funerary rites. He is editing the publication of MM III contexts from Festòs and Haghia Triada and the Kamilari tholos tombs.
He is collaborating with D. Matsas (XIX Ephoria of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities) and P. Pavuk (Comenius University, Bratislava) to the study and publication of the Minoan and Minoanizing material from the settlement of Mikro Vouni on Samothrace.
